Saw the silver swan a few years ago! I do love these old automata. And I was also lucky enough to see a proper New England fall one year. The locals said it wasn't a great day, but with no point of comparison I was suitably impressed! 🍂

what is it that compels me to pick up several conkers every year, and do absolutely nothing with them apart from have them sit on my shelf until i inevitably chuck them out? there's something so satisfying about finding a good, shiny conker.

It’s partly that they mark the new season, but also they’re just a very satisfying shape and colour.
Oh gosh, River is a bit addictive, isn't it? I suppose having a job was nice while it lasted...
