Having a bit of a clear out, with a view to getting rid of some books (no, honestly), and I come across this bookmark. A little slice of history. I particularly like 'Green Gragon Lane'.
Conker
This, the first conker, of the autumn, will sit in my pocket for a few weeks, lending comfort. It will gradually lose its mahogany sheen, but I’ll keep it anyway.
Fall foliage prediction map
This one’s for Americans in particular, and leaf-peepers everywhere. How will fall progress this year? Like this, probably.
Silver swan
The silver swan at the Bowes Museum, of which I wrote seven Six Thingses ago, is to be restored. Hurrah.
River
The internet has become an extraordinarily rich and strange place in ways unimagined at its inception. Here is a website called ‘river’, a ’visual connection engine’. All you do is ‘clear your mind and surf laterally through image space’. Click on images and watch the landscape around it change. Odd, and curiously compelling.
Goat challenge
Dave Huxtable, man of many accents, takes on the International Goat Challenge.
And finally…
Some people celebrate obvious milestones – hundreds and thousands, for example. I prefer the satisfying symmetry of the repdigit. THANK YOU ALL. And to those of you whose instinctive reaction is to send this number on a downward trend, a) you are cruel people, and b) I honestly can’t blame you.
Saw the silver swan a few years ago! I do love these old automata. And I was also lucky enough to see a proper New England fall one year. The locals said it wasn't a great day, but with no point of comparison I was suitably impressed! 🍂
Again a great start to the week! Thank you! Right on the money with tickets and such found in books as place markers! Brilliant. Thanks Have a great week of Things
