Surname (& first name) is a great time waster. My surname is very common - especially in Myanmar apparently - the last fact was a surprise… loved the Everest video too

Only (approximately) 18 people with my surname! Anyone beat that?

That’s very exclusive!

Actually a little bit disappointed that my surname is only the 208th most common in the world.

I'm obsessed with the Mushroom color atlas, the website design is so beautiful.

Fun fact about George Everest (which you probably know given how many facts you share 🙃) his grave is a very non-descript one down here near me in Hove, right next to the Big Tesco. He actually never went anywhere near the mountain which is bananas.

I knew the bit about him not going near the mountain, but not the Big Tesco thing.

How many rabbit holes did I go down reading this ?! I am NEVER going up Mount Everest. Not that I ever was going to - but oh my goodness that journey up is mind blowing.

And the surname stuff - LOVE it

I’ve read a lot of Everest books and seen quite a few films, but that drone video puts it all together in a way I haven’t seen before.

I might add, as someone who’s done a fair bit of rock climbing and mountaineering, I would think there would be almost zero crossover between people climbing Everest and people climbing at the Olympics.

Oh yes, I suspect you’re right, although I know several of the top sport climbers are also top rock climbers – not so much mountaineering, though.

Yes, and there are people doing outdoor routes who also shine at the Olympics, like Adam Ondra. But as climbing, like most things, becomes ever more specialised, I doubt we’ll ever see anyone quite like Joe Brown, from top rock climber to first ascent of Kangchenjunga.

Wow didn’t realise how many deaths on Everest . Climbing, my GS climbs and some of his videos I’m heart in the mouth. Good to see you back

That drone ascent of Everest was absolutely amazing! And I didn't look with a lot of attention to detail of the National Geographic map of Everest deaths. I never ever thought for even 5 seconds that I might want to attempt that adventure. Walking in the woods is my niche. Glad you're back and look forward to more discoveries thanks to you.
