Enjoyed the short film on museum guard artists. Another interesting perspective on being a museum guard (at the Met) can be found in All the Beauty in the World, Patrick Bringley's memoir.

I am now obsessed with beating my score with a rock.

I love your Six Things and look forward to it every week!

Thanks! It’s addictive, isn’t it? But in a good way, I think.

Certainly encourages out-of-the-box thinking! Apparently I was the first person to use photon torpedoes in one match up.

I beat the Rock with Giant Haystacks- I’m quite old and don’t know anything about wrestling

I don’t know how you do it but each weeks are so different and amazing. Have you seenJackie Morris who types with old typewriters on feathers and leaves?

Thank you! (I spend too long on the internet…) Yes, Jackie Morris is wonderful.

My best run of What Beats Rock firsts went:

'You were the first to beat BOILING with FUEL SHORTAGE; OIL WELL with WAR; TREATY with TREACHERY; TREACHERY with DIPLOMATIC MARRIAGE; DIPLOMATIC MARRIAGE with DEATH; SKEPTICISM with EPIPHANY; COMEDOWN with VITAMINS; VITAMINS with COMMON COLD'

" you were the first to beat lichen 🌿 with urine 💧,sledgehammer 🔨 with artist 🎨,artist 🎨 with UK funding 💷" but it broke when I tried to beat teeth with coca-cola!

Looking forward to listening to the plodcast.

Wholeheartedly agree with Thing 3. My acknowledgements started with a shameless twist on the great Jane Austen opening words: “It is a truth universally (albeit silently) acknowledged that the part of a PhD thesis, that is actually read by most people opening the book, is the part of the acknowledgements.” They open a window into the soul of the person who poured blood, sweat, and tears into the thesis.

Also, whatbeatsrock is awesome! Great for procrastination, too 😉
