Experienced an earthquake in Stockport sometime in the 1990s. Like an enormous laden lorry had passed by on the A6, but wobblier. And slightly disconcerting.
Another great read. In the style of a character from the Fast Show, I think we all should adopt the excuse/reason we didn’t experience or do something as ‘ I was conducting Shostakovich at the time’
Interesting on the earthquakes. Between 2007 and 2013, I experienced one in Kettering, during the night. I was on the fifth floor which maybe made it more apparent. It was close to the main railway, so at first I assumed it was a particularly heavy goods train, (they also shook the building somewhat) but the silence was uncanny and ruled out a train. According to the list, that could only have been the Market Rasen quake, which was quite some distance to have such an impact.
I was working in oxford geosciences when that big Dudley shake happened, imagine the excitement the seismologists experienced. My husband was in Birmingham, where someone phoned the police because they thought it was a poltergeist. Presumably people that think earthquakes are supernatural think the police can arrest ghosts? If you get the right owl you can make do with one circle.
These posts are so inspiring! I often use your things as topics for my own writing. Such striking images come to mind from my memory and also make me curious to explore within the writing from these words. Thank you! This is important work you are doing. It is appreciated.
Thank you for sharing A New View of the Moon - for over a year I have been going outside and looking at the night sky before bed. Sometimes I can see the moon, sometimes I can’t. But what I always feel is a connection to something greater.
I experienced the Market Rasen earthquake! I was living in York in a house with two others, and when the whole place vibrated like a big truck was going past, then *jumped* an inch up and down, we all thundered blearily out into the upstairs hallway, staring at each other, barely aware of what had just happened but with our hearts racing and our nervous systems screaming DANGER. I will never forget the weirdness of it - how silent and confused we all were, yet also fully aware in a way that hadn't yet reached our conscious minds. The body knows. It just knows.
Marvellous. Thank you very much.
How to draw an owl made me chuckle. Thank you.

The circle drawing is fascinating, I draw mine clockwise which apparently puts me in the minority for this country!!
