I'm glad you have joined the Merlin fandom. You are right though that it often can't pick up faint or distant calls (like when I could hear a peregrine half a mile a way and it couldn't) - but on the plus side that does briefly give you a smug feeling of human superiority over technology, and such opportunities are few and far between these days.
With hindsight I was impressed with its calm patience as it repeatedly told me it couldn't hear a bird in Canada when I could clearly hear rhythmic loud peeps in the trees above me. When I eventually reached somewhere with wifi Google broke the news to me that it was an American Red Squirrel's alarm call. Oh.
I wasn’t sure I’d be able to recover emotionally from the nihilist penguin, but a return to Mark Carwardine gettting shagged by a kakapo really helped.
Brilliant.
Keep them coming

Fabulous as always. I’ve got a Heath Robinson book somewhere?
I love Merlin! The migration paths are amazing. Unbelievable, really!

It’s the antidote to Herzogian gloom.
Excellent as always and congratulations on the birthday! I'd love to submit my six things but the email bounced back?
