I was born in Twickenham and still live here to this day. The journey both walking and by kayak, (via a route that only locals use), is absolutely mesmerising, and how many times we’ve watched cars floating away, caught by the high spring tides. For a moment, I hoped that you had visited, Lev. But if not, please do, someday. It’s a beautiful riverside town on the outskirts of London, and the natives are friendly 😊
Thanks Lev. The riverside walk/kayak video is a splendid bit of Slow TV. We took visiting friends on a walk by the river here in York a few weeks ago and their surprise bordered on incredulity when we explained why all the houses along the walk, ten or more feet above the river level, have floodgates across their garden walls. It is very hard to imagine if you don't see it.
All good, as usual, but I can’t see Time’s list of best inventions without subscribing to the magazine. Grrrrr
That’s odd. I don’t subscribe, and could see it fine. Sorry!
Thank you once more.

Positively Venetian in feel.
