Starlings are captivating creatures, weaving a tapestry of constant movement and endless chatter in the sky. Their restless gatherings are a mesmerising dance of nature, a symphony of clicks, whistles that always leave me in awe and wonder.
Oh my goodness, I am blown away by the Starlings mimicking chickens, but the memory of the two-stroke engine?? Wow. Thank you, Lev. Biggest thanks for the mention, too. I’d never seen the Bobby McFerrin video either! I so enjoyed ba-ing along to that...
All those 'stops' - great start to the day. I haven't seen a starling in a very long time. We moved to east Devon 4 and a half years ago and haven't seen a single starling in our garden. :-(
Always enjoy reading these Lev however a little disappointed that the ‘Stop’ video didn’t work as I was very interested to find out which of the songs I may not of heard before or, possibly, forgotten. Thanks anyway.
I don't know whether this is the link that's not working. It's a mashup of old movie scenes marvelously coordinated to the Bruno Mars song "Uptown Funk" and it contains a really terrific Stop!
It isn’t, although it is also excellent. The link was a half-hour compilation of songs featuring the word ‘stop’ where the music stops at that point. Uptown Funk does feature in it. Unfortunately, between my compiling the post and sending it, the video was taken down because of a copyright claim.
I love starlings and they are excellent mimics. Round here they sing snatches of curlew song.
Why? Well, when they finish nesting, all the birds go to to the moor for the summer, and come back down once the weather starts to turn. While up there, they learn how the curlews sing.
I was late for work one morning because i was listening to starlings sing jazz. One was doing the bass line, another the trumpet, another a piano perhaps. There were four of them, all different and it fit together perfectly.
Love the Starlings’ dialogue. Perhaps Johnny Morris does the voice over? Happy Saturday Happy Six Things

Same. :-)
Loved this one - as always. Several to share with the teenagers! Two of links (first video and ‘stop’ video don’t seem to eork but maybe that’s me
Yes the ‘stop’ one seems to have been taken down (was working yesterday…)
Odd about the other one – working fine my end.
I had to go to vimeo itself to see that video, but it worked there.

Yes the 2-stroke engine is special. And my pleasure!

Yes it seems to have been taken down since I put the newsletter together yesterday.
I love the word “starlingery!” I’ve been enjoying the recent flyovers and tree crowds in my area. Here’s a bit of my own starlignery: https://substack.com/@annethomas/note/c-42214527?r=6khx7&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=notes-share-action

Yes, I heard one doing a curlew imitation in the village on Lindisfarne – had me for a moment.
“Starlingery” 👌
