Thank you. I found it impossible to just listen to Sextet . I had to watch it as well. It was amazing. As a non-musician, I couldn't get over the fact that they were playing without music in front of them.
Just watched/listened to the Sextet performance. Mesmerising! An almost superhuman talent to be able to play that. I can’t believe they weren’t all whooping at the end 😁
Small world - Helen is my compere for Ada Lovelace Day on Tuesday. In fact, its whole format is largely down to her - she's been part of the team since I think 2010-ish.
I'm so delighted to have found your newsletter, Lev, and the Steve Reich bit here confirmed that feeling! I discovered Reich via the Cambridge Music Festival a few years ago (I'm a musician but for some reason hadn't been introduced), and listening to Drumming and then Electronic Counterpoint pulse through my bones live was mesmerizing. He's a regular on my playlists ever since.
I'm also a big fan of birds generally, and ephemera and art etc, so I'm really looking forward to this.

Thoroughly enjoyed this edition of SixThings, especially the Reich Thing. The Desert Music is one of my all time favourites - wonderful

Oh! Oh! Steve Reich’s (Sextet) AND Steve Martin (OMITB). Utter joy. And Armenia is so beautiful! Thank you.
Also. Is it ok to say I find shades of Steve Reich in George Ezra’s music. Not so intense but similarly hypnotic.
