Wow, what a weekend. It was so powerful to see and love, in your newsletter, how you return to nature, the greatest spectacle of all. Great read, thank you 😁

Thank you so much! I hadn’t thought of that progression consciously, but now you mention it, it’s clearly something I do – more than just an enthusiasm, but an underpinning of life.

I hadn't noted the lack of librarians this Coronation but now that I have seen the list from 1953, it is glaringly obvious. I knew there was *something* off but couldn't pinpoint it before.

Zadok is perfect isn't it. Shivers down the spine every time. And cow parsley...as divine as the Handel.

I can smell the lilies of the valley. I find scent so evocative, and very much a part of my scientific research, that just seeing a picture of a plant allows me to smell it. Synesthsia perhaps?

I hadn't made the connection to realizing that your father recorded the Berkeley with Dennis Brain. It's one of my earliest records during my wanting-to-be-Dennis-Brain teens. I realize now that it was composed for Brain and your father. It is a marvelous trio, the equal of the Brahms. There are not enough horn trios. I worked hard to play the Brahms and the Berkeley on both violin and horn, though not at the same time. I actually made a recording of the Brahms. I found the violin part of the Berkeley approachable but the horn part was too difficult for me to master.

Thank you for your musical reflections.

There are so many things for which the scent is triggered by the image, in my experience. Lovely to read of your impressive musical exploits. Violin and horn – possibly the ‘hardest’ instruments (a subjective assessment, I acknowledge).

Yes, but I dearly love both of them. I taught myself to play a number of instruments available at my schools. My teachers would give me a couple of lessons, then I was on my own. I really enjoyed tympani and bassoon, but stuck with violin and horn.

I love looking at orchestra lists. Not that I’ll ever know anyone in them but once upon a time I did a degree in music so you never know!

Zadok is a total banger and lots of fun to sing. And that lily of the valley 😍

I just had to Google the F&M peacock. It's created out of 1,298 feathers made from recycled Fortnum tea caddies and biscuit tins. Love it. 😃

Discovering that the F&M peacock is crafted from 1,298 feathers made from recycled Fortnum tea caddies and biscuit tins is fascinating. The creative repurposing of materials adds a unique and sustainable dimension to the artwork, showcasing a blend of artistry and eco-consciousness. It's a wonderful example of how creativity and environmental responsibility can come together to create something both beautiful and sustainable. https://bit7.org/the-impossible-quiz.html
