On a recent visit to Rutland Water (yay, ospreys!), a very helpful volunteer in a branded polo shirt enquired whether I was an experienced bird watcher. I said no, and he beckoned me over to a nearby scope on a tripod, whereby he carefully and with great seriousness took the time to point out that rarest of birds, unknown to all but the keenest of twitchers…. the swan.

Birds, wonderful, obviously, but thank you from this librarian for spreading the word about the PLR. I wish more people knew about it and why borrowing a book for free from the Library is better than pirating a book for free from wherever.

Nightingales often come to where I live in Kent (think Darling Buds of May) and we gathered in the nature reserve with the local wine tasting group for champagne and a serenade. It was lovely.
