Six Things
SIX THINGS. No more, no less. A regular mailing containing six things that have caught my eye, ear, nose, or that unknown sense that makes you turn round and go ‘hello, what was that?’
What are the things? It varies. But based on past experience, the following are likely to feature:
birds
words
music
humour
science and/or nature
food
games
cats and dogs and flowers and gerbils and trees and elephants
the hole in the carpet that just suddenly appeared that time
news of my activities
general maunderings about the futility of all existence
How often? I send the free Six Things mailing every weekend. Starting in January 2024 there will be a second weekly mailing about birds, with extra content below the fold for paying subscribers. I’m aiming for the sweet spot: often enough for you to think “Oh yeah – that guy” rather than “Oh god – not again” when it plops into your inbox.
The things might be a 750-word piece on bird migration, a calming video of someone making a pot, a photograph of an excellent feather, a joke that made me snort, a vintage clip of some astounding musicianship and a really satisfying map. Or they might be six completely other things. But you get the idea.
Whichever subscription you choose, I do hope you find it worthwhile. I’m aiming for the sweet spot: often enough for you to think “Oh yeah – that guy” rather than “Oh god – not again” when it plops into your inbox.
‘Six Things’ was chosen as a ‘recommended’ Substack in May 2023, and they sent me this nice badge to prove it
If you happen to know already that you want to share this with a friend, here’s another purple button to help you do just that (they do love purple buttons here)
Who am I? I’m Lev Parikian – I’m a writer and conductor, and you can find out more about me on my main website.
