I’m OK with ageing. I really am. But sometimes things creep up on you unawares, and oh crikey.

Thing 1

“Oh crikey” was my reaction yesterday, when someone pointed out that The Specials’ Ghost Town was released 42 years ago, which is impossible because I distinctly remember it happening and it was last Tuesday, when I was 16 years old, which is obviously still the age I answer to.

This unwelcome reminder of the stealthy passage of time – indeed, its apparent acceleration – sent me on a little search. What music, I wondered, was released into the world 42 years before that?
