Six fairly brief and desultory things for you this week, because Easter.
But first, a Pre-Thing:
APOLOGY
In last week’s Six Things I featured the facial markings of horses and confidently attributed the source to the excellent Lucy Inglis. Shortly afterwards, the no-less-excellent Rose George tactfully reminded me that it was she who had provided the original inspiration.
I have been foolish and deluded, and am a bear of no brain at all.
The only explanation I can offer is the same as the poor child in the Far Side cartoon: my brain is full. Apologies to Rose, obviously. You should definitely subscribe to her Substack, which is (have I said?) excellent.
Thing 1 – Stations
This is terrific. Albert Guillaumes Marcer has mapped the layouts of hundreds of metro stations. Particularly interesting for anyone who has ever wondered what the hell is going on at Bank and Monument stations. (From web curios)
Thing 2 – Labyrinth
Explore the Forever Labyrinth – ‘an art-filled quest through time and space’. A fun and not-so-subtly educational game/quest.
Thing 3 – Shorts
Sam Summers ranked all the Oscar-winning animated shorts, and showed his working.
Maybe you just want the list, in which case he’s put it on Letterboxd.
Now all we have to do is watch them all to see if we agree.
Thing 4 – Swan
All the way back in Volume 28 of Six Things, I featured the wonderful silver swan at the Bowes Museum. It is now fully restored and there are daily demonstrations. A thing of wonder.
Thing 5 – Number
A very silly thing that made me laugh more than it strictly should.
Thing 6 – Bed
An automated bed maker for people who go to bed in an extremely specific way.
Finally, a reminder that all my books remain relentlessly available.
By coincidence, I heard today that the Silver Swan is in action again. Hearing it twice in one morning is obviously a sign. We have pencilled in a weekend for a return visit.
Is Thing 6 an invitation to tender?
