I would love to pretend that my contribution to our south London garden consists of anything more than admiring comments. My wife Tessa does it all, and it looks amazing – Tardis-like in its warping of perceived space, and (especially right now) full of life and colour. This is no surprise – it is, after all, her profession.
It’s an archetypal urban garden – a long rectangle running down from house to shed, constrained by fences on three sides. But thanks to the planting, the rigid straight lines are softened and the fences seem to disappear. It’s probably longer than most such examples – long enough that when we moved in nearly fifteen years ago I (only half-jokingly) suggested it was big enough to install a cricket net. What we now have is even better (if you can imagine such a thing). We are very privileged to have the space and it is a boon.
So here are six things from the garden at the moment – with a bonus three because I find choice difficult, confusing and stressful. Also, the sky was amazing last night.
Gorgeous. The garden is such a wonderful calming presence in my life. As are the creatures we get to share it with.
And a lovely bit of wild meadow!
